CoD4 Patch 1.7

The patch is out for CoD4

This is more or less a fix only patch: 1.6 to 1.7 only not a full patch
- Fixed an exploit that allowed players to access certain console dvars during multi-player matches.
- Fixed a crash that could occur when a Chinatown Sabotage match would go into over-time.
- Fixed a bug where the MP icons (Bomb, Defend, Capture, etc) were always showing up as English regardless of the install language.

Is there life out there?

I have to admit the launching of Br1Gaming was the highlight of my gaming career, although it ranks right below the last seven years with (TNT)Blowout. Let's just say the launch was great, the follow up was horrendous. I dropped the ball as I had a major personal crisis that happened not day after the opening of br1gaming.com. Also in that time, Diva, a great contributor and co-conspirator of br1gaming also had a major life issue come to pass, and it was all we could do to run the clan that we currently run; much less keep this gaming community afloat. I hoped that through the generous devotion of time and postings from the other administrators; this would feed itself until such time as our issues had passed. Although, JJ, Shadivar, Frag and Outlaw had posted and kept moving along, I ultimately dropped the ball in support and leadership.

So now the issue is at hand; what am I going to do about it.

I talked to Diva about a re-launch. Are you game? Still want to be part of a great gaming idea/community?

I want to get the ball rolling again and really make this site roll.

Please pm if you want to be pulled off staff, or if you want to get the ball rolling again so we can make arrangements

Thank you to all that started this adventure, and to all those that still want to try it one more time..

teamspeak 3 update

TeamSpeak 3 is making Good Progress
Written by Joselin Ludwig on Feb 21, 2008
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello again!

We have some exciting news to report this month. Although there is still no TeamSpeak 3 client or server on our download page, TS3 technology has already been released in a different way. We are currently working with a small group of hand-picked companies that want to add VoiceCom functionality into their product. Most of these companies are game producers, that want to integrate a high-quality VoiceCom solution into their game, but we are also working with companies that have nothing to do with gaming. We (and they) are currently bound by legal agreements, so we cannot tell you what products are going to be released with TS3 inside, however, in time our Press Release area will be updated to reveal more info to you ;).

On development aspects, we are working full-steam on the few remaining gaps in our core systems. As for our sound system, we have moved from the previously used OpenAL framework to FMOD. We are sure this decision was well worth the effort and look forward to the benefits FMOD will bring us in the future. Much progress has been made on the permissions system and also a lot of effort has gone into one of our "surprise features", which we don't want to reveal at this point. Apart from the permissions system, there are no basic core parts missing anymore. Of course there is some work involved applying the finishing touches to the different areas, but we are fairly confident with the status of our core (which is why we have accepted the pre-release SDK projects mentioned above).

The most amount of work that still needs to be completed is in the user interface (UI). Since the new TeamSpeak 3 UI is still not quite as polished as we would like it to be, we have not presented you with a screenshot of our current client. There is light ahead though: we are currently evaluating work from several graphic artists to be considered as an icon set within the TS3 client. Once we have a presentable set of icons available, the chances of you seeing the first screenshots of a more complete TS3 client will rise dramatically :).

Thanks for reading! Until our next blog!

COD5

Rumours have been circulating for a few days now that Call of Duty 5 is in development at Treyarch and that it'll returning to a World War II setting. Those rumours, while still officially unconfirmed, are looking to be more and more certain by the moment.

The boys over at Kotaku have kept their ears close to the ground on this one and have been rewarded for their vigilance by the words of an anonymous inside source.

The tipster has confirmed that Call of Duty 5 is definitely in development at Treyarch. The game has doubtlessly been planned for a while and is listed in a series of Vivendis corporate documents, alongside Guitar Hero IV and new James Bond and Tony Hawk games. What hasn't been confirmed though is what setting Call of Duty 5 will feature and who will be developing it.

The Kotaku insider however has revealed that the game will eschew the modern setting of Call of Duty 4 to return to the original World War II setting. The insider has also said that the game will be set in Pacific theatre of war - a much under-used locale for shooters.

Personally, we find the whole return to WWII thing a little bit disappointing. Call of Duty 4 has only been out a little while and bowled us over with awesomeness, so taking a step back like this is a bit of a letdown.

TeamFortress Update Today

Team Fortress 2 (also on Xbox 360 and PS3), one-third of the killer combination that is Valve Corporation's The Orange Box, for the PC is getting its biggest patch yet tomorrow, right on the dot of 11 AM PST. Featuring improvements all across the board that's sure to get the team-fragging experience into the next level, this one is definitely not one to be missed. And what's the best thing about it? It's absolutely free!

Before we move on to the ridiculously-long changelog, however, there's also the deal about the new map that gets released. It's the Badlands map, a control point map based on its predecessor in Team Fortress Classic. Featuring rocky terrain, a fast-paced layout, and sweet sniping/sentry construction spots, this is definitely the map to pick if you're getting just a bit too used to the scenery of Granary or 2Fort.

Now, here's the changelog!

Team Fortress 2:

Badlands released
Changes to Dustbowl:

Added a new access point to the stage2 attacker gates (drop-down left from spawn), allowing attackers a way to reach the left route without being subjected to the spam and sentry gun fire
Fixed a gap in stage 3, cap 1 that allowed a player with to wiggle above the "ceiling" clip
Fixed a gap behind stage 1, cap 1 house
Fixed a high perch on stage1 cap1 house roof
Fixed a perch offering view of nodraw textures and the skybox (stage1 cap2 rock barrier)
Fixed a few places where rockets/demoman pipes could pass through non-solid models
Sealed up a gap over stage1 lower startgate
Clipped off tall windows in stage 3 to prevent sentry guns from behind built behind them
Changes to Capture the Flag Well

Fixed trains not starting on map spawn
Removed cap association from red spawns that were spamming console
Changes to Granary

Removed spawn timing advantage from the middle (from -3 to 0)
Fixed several model perch exploits (red, blue cp1 gate and blue cp2 gate pipe)
Fixed a few places where players could get stuck between containers and silos
Adjusted playerclips on red container that made it appear like players were floating
More changes:

Added a small delay (200 ms) before a zoomed sniper shot can get a critical hit
Added server side convar mp_fadetoblack. Same functionality as Counter-Strike, used mainly during in-person tournaments and LAN events
Added flamethrower "sizzle" sound when the Pyro is hitting a target
Updated explosion debris to be a bit darker
Fixed idle players not being kicked from the server if mp_allowspectators was set to 0
Added ctf_well to the default mapcycle.txt file
Added ctf_well to the default motd.txt file
Fixed floor tile material type
Fixed some weapon damage info missing from TF2 game stats
Made some small changes to the Demoman viewmodel that were causing performance problems
Added exec'ing a .cfg file on the client when you select a class to play.
Added a new timer to the HUD to show the value of mp_timelimit. This is useful if you're playing a timed match on 2Fort, where you only set a timelimit on the server and no other win conditions.
Added server log entry for buildings destroyed by their owner
Fixed sentry gun shadows being clipped
Updated glass material

Cysis Movie beiing Planned

A feature film based on Crytek's platinum-selling sci-fi FPS Crysis (PC) is in the planning stages, reports Kotaku. "A Crysis movie is definitely planned," revealed Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli. "We are in active talks already. I think we will close this topic before the end of this year."

A film based on Crytek's previous title, Far Cry, is currently in post-production. It was directed by the ever-reviled Uwe Boll before he resigned from big-budget projects, and guest stars Anthony Bourdain, the world-traveling maverick chef.

Though Boll's past efforts have transformed Sega's House of the Dead and Gas Powered Games' Dungeon Siege franchises, among others, into poorly received box office releases, Yerli is still eager to see the film.

"Unfortunately, we have not been involved in the film since very early when it was a script," explained the CEO. "However, I think the script changed and improved radically since then, at least I hope it has, since I can't wait to see the movie."

Other topics discussed by Yerli included the possibility of Crytek being acquired by a larger publisher--"If it were a cultural fit, yes, but we would have strong requirements in addition," he noted--and Ubisoft Montreal's upcoming Far Cry 2 (PC, PS3, X360), which Crytek has no involvement in.

"I honestly love the game Far Cry 2 and its development, even though the only relevance from Far Cry to Far Cry 2 is its name," said Yerli. "Everything else seems to be a new game, which I am looking forward to play."

While Yerli could offer no official word on a Crysis sequel, though the studio has long maintained that Crysis is the first in a planned trilogy, he did say that its next project should arrive within the next three years.

"The biggest lesson learned from our previous games is to focus on efficiency in your organization," he noted. "The deployment of this efficiency is critical. I believe we will release our next game quicker than Crysis, so I estimate a two to three year cycle."
